Effects of Organizational Communication and Team Work on the Perception of Importance and Activities on Patient Safety in General Hospital Employees

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of organizational communication and team work on perception of importance and activities on patient safety in general hospital employee. The survey was performed with 450 hospital employees working in 2 hospitals in B City. The data was collected by questionnaires and were analyzed with the SPSS/Win 23.0 program. The results of the survey were as follows. The levels of organizational communication, team work, perception of importance on patient safety management and patient safety assurance activities were
3.26, 3.65, 3.74 and 4.07 respectively out of a 5-point scale. There was a statistically significant positive relationship between variables. The significant factors that influence perception of importance on patient safety management were age
(>40years), occupation(administration), contact department, work experience (>10years), guidebook (have), organizational communication and team work which explained 24.2% (F=21.481, p<.001) of perception of importance on patient safety management. The significant factors that influence patient safety assurance activities were occupation (administration), contact department, work experience (3-5 years), team work which explained 22.8% (F=34.234, p<.001) of patient safety assurance activities. Therefore, it is necessary to develop and apply effective organizational communication and teamwork programs to improve patient safety assurance activities for hospital employees.
